To grow on social media requires more than a perfectly curated post, maintaining an incredible aesthetic feed and that picturesque travel shot. It's about genuinely connecting with your followers, and this can only be achieved by being true to yourself. Yep, that's right. The key to social media success is authenticity.
Back when Instagram was the only social media app to be seen on, there wasn't much rhyme or reason for what and how we posted — except that every picture needed the Valencia or X-Pro II filter.
The vibe then changed to having the most aesthetic feed possible. People stuck to colours, types of images and borders. It was honestly beautiful — but nowadays people on social media don't care about your filters or how your feed looks. They care about the content you post, and if it is real.

What being authentic means
Being genuine is not about creating popular posts that attract clicks, likes and shares. It is about creating authentic and honest content while staying true to yourself.

Authentic and aesthetic
Being authentic does not mean that you don't have to keep your posts from being aesthetically pleasing. Keeping your content aesthetic will still draw people in while authenticity will keep them coming back.

Why authenticity works
The reason that being authentic works on social media is because it helps you stand out from everyone else. There is no one like you — just think about the last TikTok video you watched when someone was just being themselves.
That content is way more engaging than those perfectly curated posts that lack any personality.
